Coal and lignite PSUs have planted 29 million saplings on 13,400 hectares of mined land over six years, targeting 16,000 hectares by 2030. Methods include Miyawaki forests, drone planting, and seed-ball broadcasting.
“This is about leaving a positive footprint where coal has been extracted,” said a Coal India official. Communities are benefiting from biodiversity and water recharge.
Critics say plantations can’t offset emissions, but the initiative shows PSUs’ ESG sensitivity.
