Government sets 500 GW target, renewables dominate investments

The government aims to add 50 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity annually to reach 500 GW by 2030. The 4th Biennial Update Report to the UNFCCC confirmed a 7.93% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, signalling progress toward India’s climate commitments. “India is now the world’s fourth-largest renewable energy market,” said a senior official at the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Over $4 billion in FDI flowed into India’s clean energy sector in the past year.
