GAIL readies for tariff decision, signs LNG deals with Vitol and CoolCo

Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) is awaiting a crucial pipeline tariff decision from the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). The ruling, expected by early September, could reshape gas transport economics and impact margins for industrial buyers. Analysts say a higher tariff would boost GAIL’s revenue but may dent competitiveness of natural gas versus coal.
In parallel, GAIL has strengthened its LNG portfolio with two long-term agreements. The company signed a 10-year supply deal with Vitol Asia for 1 MMTPA of LNG starting 2026. It has also entered a 14-year time charter with CoolCo for a newbuild LNG carrier, due to be delivered in early 2025.
