HPCL Delivers Blockbuster Quarter Despite Refining Headwinds

Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) has stunned markets with a 1,128% surge in standalone net profit to ₹4,371 crore in Q1 FY26. The performance comes despite weaker refining margins and slightly lower revenues.
HPCL attributed the results to higher refinery throughput, tighter cost control, and efficiency gains. “This is a testament to operational discipline,” said Chairman Pushp Kumar Joshi. Analysts agreed, noting HPCL’s ability to outperform peers IOC and BPCL despite similar market conditions.
The quarter also showcased HPCL’s expanding retail footprint, with robust fuel sales across India. However, analysts caution that sustained profit growth will depend on maintaining refining spreads in a volatile crude environment.
