Coal India Limited (CIL) has set August 21 as the record date for its final dividend of ₹5.15 per share for FY25. The payout totals ₹3,173.8 crore, benefiting nearly 23 lakh shareholders. The government, holding 63.13% equity, will receive ₹2,003 crore.
The dividend comes amid declining coal demand growth, but underscores CIL’s importance as a cash-generating PSU. Analysts note the payout reinforces the state’s fiscal position while rewarding investors.
However, long-term questions persist about CIL’s ability to balance dividends with capital investments in mine expansion and diversification into renewables.
